Parents and Cell Phones

Why is it that parents have an unrelenting pride for how long they can hold on to the same cell phone? It completely escapes me. Yes, I break my phone every 5 days, and yes, I need to re-send people a new PIN constantly, and triple yes I have about 20 million dollars heading my way in rebates from Verizon. But the new phone fiasco is trumped by the misplaced arrogance and sense of achievement the rentals harbor for having had that Nokia flip phone for 9 years.
